• I have never danced before. Is it a problem?
Our beginner course is designed for people with no previous experience in dancing
• Do I need dance shoes? Can I wear my heels
Normal city shoes are not allowed in the studio.
If you already have jazz shoes you can bring them but otherwise don't buy anything before knowing if dancing is your thing. We recommend using a clean pair of socks during the beginner course.
Don't use dance shoes with heels during the beginner course, heels technique is introduced later in the curriculum.
Anything comfortable and clean, ideally sportswear
• I can't make it to one of the classes
The beginner course is a complete learning cycle, students are required to come to all the 3 sessions.
You don't need a partner, as we rotate partner very regularly during the class.
• My partner and I do not want to rotate. Is it a problem?
While we totally understand that there may be personal reasons for which you would prefer to dance with your partner only, we do not accept this arrangement during the beginner course, for multiple reasons:
By experiece, it creates confusion during the rotation and affects the vibe of the class
Secondly, as social dancers, being able to lead and follow different partners of different size/level/style is part of the skill set that we teach
Finally, one of our objectives is to grow the community of Salsa dancers in Hong Kong
We make sure that the atmosphere is very safe, relaxed, and beginner friendly, so that everybody is at ease. You might want to contact us for more details and/or consider for private classes.
We offer a 50% discount to University Students that are full time students of a university in Hong Kong, Masters degree or below and below 25 years of age.
• How many students in the class?
The beginner course normally has between 8 and 12 couples.
• How many leaders and followers in the class?
At DanceMos, we arrange the gender balance of every class, notably the beginner course.
That's why it is very important for you to commit to all the classes, as it affects the other students in the course.
The beginner course is normally between 8 and 12 couples.
• I am not a beginner. Can I skip the beginner course?
The beginner course is the natural onboarding process to be admitted in the school. For us, it is a way to discover our students, to see which ones match our expectations in terms of learning attitude and motivation.
Symmetrically, it allows the students to discover salsa, the school, our teaching philosphy, without a long term commitment.
Content-wise, we cover fundamental knowledge of partner dance, connection, weight transfer, rhythmic work, etc, that is seldom covered outside dance schools.
That being said, if you have significant experience in Salsa, just contact us and our pedagogical team will assess what classes would benefit you the most.
• Where is the class schedule?
Our class schedule is available to our regular student who have been admitted in the school. It is published weekly in our DanceMos app, where students can book their class, check their credits and more.
The standard way of joining the school is to have completed and passed the Beginner course.
• Do I need dance shoes? Can I wear my heels
Normal city shoes are not allowed in the studio.
Anything comfortable. For the dance technique classes, please bring clean sportswear (no skirt, no jeans). There is a changing room in the studio.
• I can't make it to one of the classes
If you can't make it to one of the classes, please inform us as soon as possible, as we need to arrange the gender balance. If you know in advance you won't be able to make it to one of the classes, we suggest you to wait for the next beginner course, so you don't miss on important information.
• Do you accept walk-in classes?
We do not accept unannounced walk-in students. If you are not one of our regular students, please contact us and the team will assess with you which classes are the best for you to join, according to your background and objectives.
• Do you offer private classes?
We do offer private classes on a case by case basis. We see private classes as a complimentary tool to address a specific difficulty or situation, not as a long term replacement for group classes. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.
• Do you offer Wedding dance classes/packages?
We do offer wedding dance choreography package to some of our regular students, that love salsa and would like to dance on their special day. They typically will or have already dedicated a few months to learning, want to dance salsa as a long term project and are happy to join our community.
We don't teach salsa for a one-off event prepared in a few hours, as we believe that other styles are more suitable.
• Can I visit the studio before committing?
Sure. Please check the 360 degrees virtual visit and the photos on the Studio page. If you wish to come in person, please contact us in advance to arrange a quick visit, as the studio might be occupied. Our studio is spacious and clean, we are sure you will love it.
